MURPHY, NORTH CAROLINA

THIS IS TRULY GODS COUNTRY

Murphy is in the extreme south western corner of North Carolina..   Tennessee borders Murphy on the west and Georgia borders Murphy on the south side.  It is centrally located from Atlanta Ga. which is 125 miles away.  It is 105 miles from Ashville No. Carolina,  85 miles from Chattanooga Tenn.,  105 from Knoxville Tenn. and 110 miles from Greenville So. Carolina

Spring time brings new beginnings to the mountains.   Planting starts in April and May, when frost is nearly over.   The soil is very fertile here and growing season goes right up till fall.  The temperature in spring varies from 40 degrees at night to 75 during the day.  Spring also brings the blooms of Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron.

 

Summer brings forth the beautiful green of the mountains and valleys.  Temperatures run from 55 at night to 90 during the day.  Lots of fishing and hunting, biking, swimming in the lakes, tubing in the rivers, along with white water rafting in the Nantahala Gorge and Ocoee River in Tennessee, abound in the local area

Native animals include Black Bear, Deer, Panthers, Wolves, Opossum, Rabbits, Raccoons, Squirrel, Ground Hogs, Snakes, Turkey, Pheasant, Quail, Doves, Wild Boars and Wild Hogs

Local lakes include: Lake Hiawassee, Appalachia and Cherokee.  Also within close driving distance are Nantahala, Santeethah, Chatuge, Fontana  Reservoir and Nottely Lake in Georgia. 

We also have beautiful waterfalls within driving distance like Mingo Falls in Cherokee

We have scenic Railroad tours in Andrews, Dillsboro and Bryson City.  The Biltmore Estate is located in Asheville NC and is simply gorgeous to see any time of year.  In Franklin NC we have gem mines that the entire family can pan for.  Stones include rubies, sapphires, garnets, quartz and amethyst just to name a few

We also have the John C. Campbell Folk School which teaches history that lives through art, culture, music everyday.  The classes include ironworks, contra dancing, pottery, build twig chairs, cooking in woodfired stone hearth, wooden bowls, heirloom gardens and medicinal herbs, yarn making and weaving, painting, tie a fly, play guitar, banjo, dulcimer and fiddle and many more to numerous to list.

Fall is ushered in with a burst of color, haunted hay rides, haunted corn maze and trick or treating in downtown Murphy.  Night time temperatures range from 30-40 and day time ranges from 60-70.

Winter is paraded in by the locals with a Christmas parade, with special guest Santa Claus.  Our winters are relatively mild with temperatures ranging from 0-30 degrees at night and 20-50 degrees during the day.  When it snows most of Murphy shuts down leaving the kids of all ages to have fun in the snow.

Murphy is a great place to live and visit any time of the year.  There is always something going on that will entertain one and all through out the entire year.   The views are spectacular from farmland to mountains and the people are friendly, making this definitely Gods country.
